R. KELLY: Lights, Camera, Court

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • Whatever side you're on, you should want to see justice served here. Nothing wrong with a little transparency.
  • The court needs to make sure that there is media access without turning the trial into a circus.
  • It's going to be hard for victims of sexual abuse to re-live past traumas when they hear graphic details about the horrifying allegations at the center of this trial.
  • Everyone deserves the right to a fair trial. The cameras in the court will let us hold everyone involved accountable.

The world will be watching when R. Kelly has his day in court in a sexual abuse trial.

Cook County Associate Judge Lawrence Flood announced on Friday that cameras will be allowed into the Chicago courtroom for the next hearing this Friday. But taking pictures or video of accusers without their consent is prohibited. At least two victims have made it clear that they won't take the stand if they'll be on camera.

Meanwhile, in another highly publicized Chicago court case, the judge has yet to rule whether cameras will be allowed in the court for Jussie Smollett’s case. (Page Six)
