IN BLANKSTARE NEWS-WEIRD FAN TRADITIONS IN SPORTS

It's a great time to be a sports fan. The NBA and NHL playoffs are going on. We're rolling through the baseball season. And, the NFL draft starts Thursday.

Of course, not all fans celebrate their teams in the same way. Here's a rundown of some of the weirdest fan traditions in sports:

  • Fish Throwing -- Whenever the University of New Hampshire hockey team scores its first goal of the game, a fish is thrown onto the ice.
  • Silent Night -- On the eve of finals, students at Taylor University in Indiana dress up in costumes for a basketball game. Then, they sit in complete silence from the tip until their team scores its 10th point of the game, at which time they go berserk and rush the floor.
  • Celery Toss -- For some reason, fans of the Chelsea soccer team in London used to bring celery to the games and throw it on the field. It ended up causing a bunch of problems -- and a mess -- so team officials banned the tradition in 2007. But, fans still bring it to victory parades. (For The Win)
