TAMPA -- Hillsborough schools are expanding a program to provide meals to students staying at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting Monday (March 30th), the district will expand the number of sites from 23 to 147, after getting approval from the USDA.
In the previous week, the district says it has served nearly 84,000 meals, which include breakfast and lunch portions, with the need steadily increasing.
Locations will serve to those 18 and under from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Also beginning Monday, bus drivers and staff will transport meals and instructional materials into neighborhoods, with pickup sites listed on the District website.
About 63 percent of Hillsborough students qualify for free or reduced price meals.
