Statewide Hepatitis A Cases Total Nearly 1,900

The Florida Department of Health is out with a new update on the hepatitis A outbreak, reporting nearly 1,900 confirmed cases this year statewide.

The state added 85 cases last week, bringing the total to 1,898 this year. The largest numbers of cases are concentrated in the Tampa Bay region and the I-4 corridor.

Pasco County leads the way with 350 cases this year, followed by Pinellas with 312 cases. Volusia County comes in at number three with 165 cases.

Only 14 Florida counties have not had any confirmed cases of Hepatitis A this year.

The liver infection can be spread through things like food or drinks contaminated with fecal matter from people with the disease. Health officials urge Floridians to get vaccinated.
