Bradenton Man Complains About Aggressive Panhandling

BRADENTON -- A Bradenton businessman wants something done about aggressive panhandling in his city.

Ryan Bray says beggars are running up to cars and threatening drivers at the intersection of 75th Street and Manatee Avenue West.

"I can tell you what they said to me... the Bradenton police department heard it... (a panhandler threatened to) kill my mother, rape my wife," Bray told News Channel 8.

Bray says he offered one man a job at $15 an hour doing yard work and got turned down. He then stood next to that panhandler with a sign telling people about the rejected offer so they wouldn't give money.

"If we as a community stop paying them, they'll leave our neighborhood," Bray said.

Bradenton has held off regulations on panhandling after the city of Miami lost a court case. Bray wants city council to take up the issue at its next meeting July 24th.
