Today we celebrate KRS ONE's birthday. I've always been a big fan and supporter of Boogie Down Productions / KRS ONE. I still remember the first time I meet him down in Miami at one of the How Can I Be Down? music conferences. My man Eric Skinner called me over to the jeep he was sitting in and introduced us. He did a drop for my radio show at the time and I still use from time to time "yo Sandman.... ... Put Your Hands On The Speakers, The Radio Is Glowing". Fast forward a couple years later, I ended up booking KRS for his 1st club show here in Tampa (he had performed at the Sundome in the late 80's) It was an amazing show, almost selling out the Masquerade/Ritz Ybor. That was the 1st of many times I had a hand in getting him here to Tampa. We did antoher show there a couple years late, one at Club Empire, one at USF Marshall Center (w/ my man Deacon), one at Jannus Live, one at Orpheum.... the list goes on. But one of my favorite shows we did was on March 9th, 2009. I booked him at Tamiami (the club on the backside of Jannus in St Pete) I was excited for two reasons; 1. Dynasty was opening up for him and I really wanted KRS to hear and see her perform. 2. I was getting to DJ his set (my second time doing so). really one reason.. my DJ Fader was home and got to come out and enjoy this epic night as well.
Thankfully, my man 3LG (Greg Wolf) came out with us and captured some of the show on video. I wanted to share this amazing time with you all....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRS ONE!
