Great Hip Hop Samples Of Aretha Franklin's Music

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin has an enormous and amazing music catalog; and as you know, Hip Hop has always reached back in time and sampled the greats...   That's one of the things I love about it.  How producers can find that perfect sample and create a whole new piece of music from it.   Here are a few beautiful Hip Hop songs that did just that....

Mos Def's classic "Ms. Fat Booty" samples the great Aretha Franklin's "One Step Ahead"

Listen to them both here:

Remember 3rd Bass's "The Gas Face"?   This one takes Aretha's classic "Think" for the into.

Listen to them both here:

This one is one of my favorites.. Styles P and Pharoah Monch "The Life"  The production on this sounds so beautiful under Styles P's vocals and Pharoah Monch's hook.   It samples Aretha Frankin's "The Long and Winding Road"

Check them here:

This one is great too.  Slum Village ft Kanye West and John Legend "Selfish"  Listen to how Kanye flipped Areath's "Call Me"

EPMD used Aretha's calssic "Rock Steady" for their song "I'm Housin" back in 1988

Check them here:

Jay Z "In My Lifetime" sampled Aretha Franklin's "Oh Baby"

Listen to them Here:

Can't forget my Boot Camp fam... here the late, great Sean Price (r.i.p) teams up with Buckshot on "Bye Bye" over this re-make of Aretha Franklin's "No One Could Ever Love You"

Check them:

I know there are many more great Aretha samples out there.  Let me know your favorites...
