The charge against the man accused of plowing his vehicle into a crowd of people protesting a white supremacist gathering in Charlottesville, Virginia was raised to first-degree murder. James Alex Fields Jr. is charged with driving his car into the counter-protesters killing Heather Heyer and injuring 35 others. Fields was arrested after fleeing the scene. He has been in jail since the august 12 incident. Fields was initially charged with second-degree murder. However, Judge Robert Downer upgraded that charge and confirmed nine others.
