Rays Sweep Mets In Extras

The Tampa Bay Rays (17-18) defeated the New York Mets (16-18) 7-6 in ten innings on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The win gives the Rays a sweep over New York in the first series of a nine-game homestand.

It was a back and forth game throughout. Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer in the first for New York, before the Rays got RBI hits from Alex Jackson and Yandy Diaz in the second to take a 3-2 lead. The Mets built a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning, which would be the score until the ninth.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Randy Arozarena hit a solo homer to tie the game and force extras. After the Mets scored in the top of the first, Jonny DeLuca hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the tenth to give the Rays the walk-off win and the sweep over the Mets.

The Rays stay home for a three-game homestand against the White Sox that begins on Monday night. First pitch from Tropicana Field is scheduled for 6:40 PM on Monday - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting the Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
