New Music Report: Emerging Artist of the Week - A Boogie wit da Hoodie

FPM

When your parents actually name you Artist, you know you're destined to become one in some capacity. And for A Boogie wit da Hoodie, his art is in the lyrics of his songs.

A Boogie, whose real name is Artist Dubose and is from in the Bronx in New York City, draws inspiration for his music from his surroundings and real life experiences. Growing up, after listening to rappers like 50 Cent and Kanye West, he began rapping himself.

Professionally, A Boogie began releasing music in 2016 and has two mixtapes and one EP under his belt, in addition to several singles -- some of which have already earned the young rapper Gold and Platinum certifications. But this year, on September 29th, he released his debut full-length studio album, appropriately titled The Bigger Artist, via his own label Highbridge and Atlantic Records. Because from here, it will only get bigger for A Boogie.

The Bigger Artist features 15 songs including "Drowning," and his latest, "Say A." And for his very first LP, A Boogie teamed up with some very talented and buzzworthy artists for features including Chris BrownTrey Songz, Robin Thicke, Kodak Black21 Savage, and PnB Rock, among others. Not to mention the album features production from star producers like Metro Boomin, DJ Mustard, Murda Beatz, and more.

In a recent interview with iHeartRadio, A Boogie explained of naming his debut album The Bigger Artist, "I made my first debut album The Bigger Artist because I feel like that's who I am, the bigger artist, compared to [how] I started off."

The rapper also explained of repping as a rapper from New York, "I feel like I made the New York rap community proud. Being from the Bronx where hip hop was originated, I'm young, and I'm doing my thing. I'm reppin' this city everywhere I go."
