Woman Accused of Mutilating Husband’s Dead Ex-Lover in Casket Found Guilty

A woman accused of slashing another woman's corpse in 2015 was found guilty Friday. Prosecutors say Shaynna Sims removed both breasts and a toe of her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend at a funeral home viewing. Police arrested Sims at the dead woman's apartment. They say she stole the woman's shoes and was carrying a knife with the woman's hair still attached. Witnesses told officers they saw Sims reach into the casket during the viewing. The dead woman's face was slashed, her makeup smeared and her hair on the floor. Sims pleaded not guilty but was ultimately convicted of unlawful removal of a body part from a deceased person, disturbing or interrupting a funeral, unauthorized dissection, knowingly receiving or concealing stolen property and first-degree burglary.
