DJ Jimi O
Born in Okinawa, Japan, and raised in Port Tampa, DJ Jimi O brings an abundance of experience to WBTP 95.7 The Beat. As a 12-year old, he began his DJ journey while listening to and being inspired by the likes of Kenny K (the Godfather DJ of Tampa Hop Hop) Saturday nights on Tampa's community radio station, and the "Often imitated! Never duplicated!" Jam Pony Express DJ's. His first set up was with 2 cassette tape players and a pair of house speakers. From there he paid his dues by DJ'ing neighborhood house parties and sharpened his skills by studying iconic DJ's such as - Jam Master Jay, Jazzy Jeff, Funkmaster Flex, Kid Capri, Grandmaster Flash, and DJ Premier. Jimi O's professional career now spans over 20 years. His proudest accomplishment, in his own words - "Opening up for Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock at the Car show in Tampa when I first joined WBTP 95.7 The Beat. Their 'Joy & Pain' album was the first record I bought with my own money when I was 11 years old. Coincidentally, years later, they were the first famous artists I had the pleasure of meeting in person." Since then, he's DJ’d for various artists from Naughty by Nature, Big Daddy Kane, Whodini, Nelly, Murphy Lee, Teddy Riley, Ce Ce Peniston, Crystal Waters, and many more. What he loves most about the craft is, "Taking people back to simpler and stress-free times. Helping people have memorable experiences when I spin. My personal favorite moment is when I make an entire room of people all yell out 'OHHH!' because they haven't heard a particular favorite song in a while." DJ Jimi O brings an energy, drive, and expertise of blending/beat matching to each and every mix!written by Andre Torres
