It's Happening: Rihanna, Lupita Nyong'o To Star In Film Inspired By Meme

Two years ago, a photo of Rihanna and Lupita Nyong'o went viral after a Tumblr suggested that they looked like they were on-set of a film, and the vision is one step closer to becoming a reality as both stars have agreed to work on the project, which has been secured by Netflix.

The photo, which depicts the stars front row of a Miu Miu fashion show, was only the beginning of the online heist-film fantasy. After the Tumblr user described the pop star as a "tough-as-nails leader/master thief" and Nyong'o as "the genius computer hacker," Twitter user @1800SADGAL took the concept one step further suggesting a plot for the film. "Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and lupita is the computer smart best friend that helps plan the scans," the user wrote.

Everything amped up a notch when additional Twitter users asked Ava DuVernay to direct the project and Issa Rae to write the screenplay. Shortly afterward, all four women agreed to partake in the project via Twitter, only heightening the anticipation for the concept.

Sources close to Entertainment Weekly revealed that Rae has already started working on the script and the studio is planning on production to start in 2018 after DuVernay wraps up her current film.

As for those online users, who stirred up the whole concept, well, a rep for DuVernay told Vanity Fair that "the original Twitter users who imagined the concept for this film will be credited and included in some form." Stay tuned!
