Listen to Nas on iHeartRadio

Nas' music has been educating listeners for nearly 20 years, and now Harvard University's W.E.B. Du Bois Institute and the Hip-Hop Archive are honoring his career with a new fellowship.

The Nasir Jones Hip-Hop Fellowship will give scholars and artists the opportunity to demonstrate that "education is real power."  Fellows will be chosen by a committee of Harvard University faculty members.  Once they've been awarded the fellowship, they can work on a number of projects, including performance pieces and album work.

In a statement, the director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute, Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., calls Nas a "true visionary."  He adds that Nas has continually shown that "boundaries can be pushed" to advance the cause of "education and knowledge."
