CLEARWATER, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Clearwater Police say officers investigated a crash Tuesday night where a car ended up in a swimming pool.
Police say the driver fled the scene after running into a mailbox, a parked car and then through a screened pool enclosure. Police say the vehicle came to rest with a portion of it in the pool.
Police say it happened on the 1500 block of South Prescott Avenue around 8:15 p.m. after the 24-year-old driver lost control while heading westbound.
The driver and a passenger from the vehicle ran from the scene after the crash, but police say the driver was taken into custody a couple of blocks away after a neighbor saw what happened.
Police say the car has $1,000 in damage, the pool enclosure has $10,000 in damage, and the mailbox was a total loss.
Police say the driver was cited for careless driving and charged with leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
No one was injured.
